This fun tactical wargame set in the Middle Earth features cool units (including Frodo and Aragorn), varied missions, and good graphics and music. Definitely a “light” game in that there aren’t many field options, and the combat model is somewhat simplistic.

J. R. R. Tolkien’s Riders of Rohan is a computer strategy video game from 1991 based upon the fictional War of the Ring set in the Middle-earth world created by J. R. R. Tolkien, centered in the Lord of the Rings novels. The massive-scale simulation takes part in the realm of Rohan and the player controls the forces of Good during the onslaught of the forces of Evil, namely centered on the conflict with Saruman of Isengard. J.R.R. Tolkien’s Riders of Rohan game description
Riders of Rohan is specifically focused on the Two Towers story, starting right before the siege of Helm’s Keep: the battle between the defending forces of Rohan and the attacking legions of the evil wizard Saruman.
The game introduces a similiar style of play as War in Middle Earth, that is a macro-world map point of view which operates battles and movement of mass armies, and there’s a micro point of view, a more ‘action’ approach where the original characters of the Fellowship can battle enemies at a smaller scale: Shoot orcs from a ranged distance, fight them melee in an arcade fighting style or challenge them in a duel of magic.
