Lotus: The Ultimate Challenge
Lotus III features a Racing Environment Construction Set (RECS) course creation system. The system allows users to create a race track by defining various basic parameters, such as amount and difficulty of turns and hills, amount of obstacles, type of scenery or difficulty of opponents. The created track can then be raced by one or both players. The course can also be written in form of a letter-and-digit code and later reused; these can be raced individually or in a series of up to nine user-created tracks.

Lotus: The Ultimate Challenge is a MS-DOS Racing/Driving video game similar to Lamborghini – American Challenge. Licensed by the classic British car company, this game featured 2 modes of play – one has you racing against 19 computer rivals (with witty names such as Alain Phosphate and Crash-Hard Banger), and the other pits you against the clock. There are 13 different types of races, ranging from Motorways to night-time to sections punctuated by roadworks, and some are lap-based with others being simple A-B. 2 players could play on a split screen mode.
The game’s crowning glory, however, was the RECS editor, which allowed you to create courses of your own, with theoretically millions possible.
